Smokey is back from the vet.

The good news is that her blood tests showed no sign of pancreatitis, which was the vet's best guess at what was wrong with her.

The less good news is that she had pain in her tummy, but no clue what might be causing it.

The vet gave her an injection for pain which should last eight hours and prescribed special food for gastrointestinal problems. Needless to say, costs an arm and a leg. I bought some from them to keep us going until I get some from Amazon.

If she continues to throw up, the next step is an x-ray. We don’t want that. A general anaesthetic in a sixteen year old cat is not ideal.

Her behaviour was mixed. She was a sweetheart for the blood test and the injection, but when they tried to put her back in her basket, another cat had upset her and she tried to take a chunk out of the vet.

I'm so glad it's not pancreatitis. We had one of our cats who developed a food allergy when he was about 14 & Flipper had to go on a special prescription food - which did solve the barfing problem and he did great after that.

I can't believe she's 16 - i remember when you got her as a little kitten!

I really thought she was a total baby when you got her. I hope she's feeling better now!

Purrs, Smokey. We (🐈🐈🐈🐈) hope a change of food helps. Purrs for your human too - ours sympathises with yours over the stress we felines cause.

A cat my brother owned turned allergic to all commercial cat foods. He wound up cooking special meals for her. (As I recall, chicken livers and rice.) After that, she no longer had problems constantly throwing up.

Poor Smokey. I hope she feels better soon.

Does she have access to any grass? It is moulting, and so hairball, season.

Our eldest was quite partial to home made chicken broth, but rejected all brands of chicken and rice for delicate tummies. She was once a very fat cat and believes that OM diet cat food is the only one worth eating.

Fingers crossed.
