Well we have some progress on the move – my solicitor seems to finally be getting some response from the seller’s solicitor. So yay, modified rapture because there are still some queries outstanding that they haven’t responded to. I’m supposed to be getting an email setting out the responses they’ve sent some time this week.

Looking at the dates, I’ll be very lucky to get in before Christmas – it takes about four weeks from the position where all the questions are answered and the contract comes through for signature. So it’s far more likely that I’ll be moving at the beginning of January. Which is annoying, I wanted to be in by Christmas. Still, progress is progress and let’s not be ungrateful for movement forward.

I have done 73 days on Duolingo, but don’t think that I could hold any kind of conversation in Welsh. Unless the other side is interested in peas or ships, as those are two words I have fair grasp of. Pys and llong in case you’re interested.

You really only need enough 'conversational' Welsh to get you started: various types of 'hello' - good morning/afternoon/evening, etc; please and thank you; 'how much is ...' [and point!]; some numbers; and various good-byes. And of course 'I'm sorry, I don't speak/understand [much] Welsh'. Also, when you've done the 'how much is x', you can ask 'what's the Welsh for x'.

Learn the pronunciation; most Welsh speakers will forgive a lot if you pronounce the words correctly. The mutations are what always foxes me, and I know just enough to try a different place in the dictionary if I come across a word I can't find as it's spelt. Also, Y Geiriadur Mawr, and the pocket Y Geiriadur Bach.

I've briefly got back to learning German on Doulingo, but my studies elsewhere have put me well ahead of where I was on Duolingo, so I'm doing a lot of test-ups.

But it's easy stuff when I'm feeling under the weather.

I've just ordered a second hand book of German peoms with English translations from World of Books.

I remember. Nothing like fandom to get us into new interests!
