Vampires are not usually my cup of tea, but there's an unusually well thought out Sherlock vampire AU here. The same writer has what looks like an unfinished sequel, too.

Still lacking arranged marriage AU's. Sigh.

Also sigh. Arranged marriage AUs are good like chocolate frosting. The less nutritional value, the better.

How about the one where John comes home as a slightly more public war hero, which he finds tiresome. But he gets a job offer from the Ministry of Silly Walks, which seems to involve a lot of coordinating with the behind-the-scenes man who runs it between and through various Ministers. And now and then some conversations, house-party invitations to allow for informal conferences with opposite numbers from the Ministry of Dead Parrots and what-have-you, all in service to running things behind the scenes, of course. About the time he realizes the non-Minister, Mycroft, is courting him for *something* beyond the job, but he's afraid to figure out what, John also meets Mycroft's inexplicable younger brother. They re-enact most plot points of "A Study in Pink," except the flat-sharing bit, ending up liking each other far too much. Uncomfortable conversation between John and Mycroft reveals that a match between War Hero John and the upper-crust Holmeses is Mycroft's long-term strategy.

Question: was Mycroft trying to arrange a marriage (or partnership) for himself initially, or was he looking for a way to contain Sherlock all along? If so, does the containing Sherlock part of it work, or do John and Sherlock together get into more scrapes than Sherlock alone?

Sadly, it's not written, as yet. I like the idea, but it's statistically a long shot that I'll finish it. The presence of "A Study in Pink" (AU'ed) as one chapter or so of the storyline complicates Just Writing It.

Mycroft is the archetypical Eminence Grise, true.

Oh, this was very fine; thank you for rec'ing it. I'm not surprised that you liked it: I could have taken it for a story of yours. Like your Snarries, there's an intelligent and winning reticence about it, and of course the AU aspect.

Glad it was worth reccing! And very flattered that you think my stuff is like it.
