This year, everyone for whom I have an email address is getting an electronic card. It's cut the cost of sending cards by at least a third.

I hope nobody minds, but they're all getting the same one.

This year - and for all future years - I've pretty well decided that Christmas doesn't exist. It wasn't a holiday anyway in Scotland until around 1959/60 - just an ordinary working day - and in over 60 years I still haven't adapted to it being anything special.

I never had a big family. One aunt on my mother's side, an aunt and three uncles on my father's and a total of five cousins. No brothers or sisters, so no nieces or nephews.

Until last year I got together with Janet and her housemate Jackie for a meal, but Jackie died in November 2021 so now it's just Janet and me. We share a house but live pretty well separate lives.
