Life is unfair

My friend moonlightmead died this morning. Her death was expected, she’d been ill for a long time, but I’m upset despite that.

We met at the Glasgow Eastercon a few (two? three?) years ago where by chance we’d arrived for breakfast at the same time. We were standing together in the queue and the waiter assumed that because we’d fallen into conversation that we must be together so sat us at the same table. We carefully sounded each other out and discovered that we were both slash fans, she in Pros me in, well, a variety of things as you know.

We spent a lot of the rest of the convention together. Not too much because I always think I’m clingy and that can get boring for whoever I’m clinging to so I take care to go off on my own and not outstay my welcome, but we were often at the same panels and things and would wave and sit together. She was very kind about my costume, and I admired her colourful outfits.

We met a couple of times in London when she came up for a visit, she was lovely and I wanted to get to know her better.

Cancer is vile and life is not fucking fair.

Very sorry to hear this. I met Mead at an Escapade nearly two years ago, where she was new to most of the people, but so fannish that she fit in perfectly. It was delightful to talk with her, and to read her con reports later. I'm missing her now.
