The very first thing Smokey did when I got her was to find and eat a spider under the bed. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw her come out from under the bed chewing something - I thought she might have found one of my lost tablets and had visions of trying to explain to the vet that I'd only had this cat one day, but then I saw that whatever she was eating had legs. Big ones.
She has been defeated by spiders, but only those which come out from under the washing machine or dishwasher and rush back there when Smokey sees them.
No insect had a chance so far against my two little killers. *g* Although I did almost have a heart attack when they went after the hornet that strayed into my flat. Got that one out again before my cats got into touching distance, phew.
I tell mine to chase the stray spiders and flies that make it indoors during the summer. I think Rupert (see icon) found a beetle yesterday -- at least, he was chasing an invisible thing on the carpet, instead of through the air. There have been a lot of beetles in the garden this year. Much amusement for everyone.
Smokey and I once had almost a conversation over a rather large beetle on the hall lino. She and I both saw it and looked at each other, both of us expecting the other to take care of it. There was me, "Look, it's full of taurine. Tasty. You eat it." Smokey: "If it's that good, you eat it. I'm not touching it, it's creepy."
In the end I had to pick it up with a bit of kitchen paper and put it in the bin.
OrangeBoy likes to play with spiders, he's not interested in eating them, just bats them as they skitter about. I have never seen GreyLady be interested, guess they are beneath her.

But she'll eat spiders. Go figure.
