So, what did I think of the new Dr Who?

I rather enjoyed it. I think Peter Capaldi is going to be a great Doctor, once the scripts settle down. The script was good in parts - in others it rather sagged. But I always enjoy seeing the lizard lady (whose name I can never remember) and her wife so that was a plus. And the Sontaran who had a witty line about acid.

Yes, gets a plus from me, and I'll be watching the series.

Well, I do have Bill Mudron's Japanese-style print of Vastra and Jenny fighting (classic) Cybermen over my bed.

Peter Capaldi rescued it for me

Peter Capaldi was great, he'll be a fantastic Doctor. The script seemed to consist of 85% filler around 15% great verbal/visual punchlines, rather than be a coherent story or adventure. Upset about the dinosaur too.

That was exactly my reaction too. But the first New Who episode with a new Doctor has always been fairly flat (IMO, obviously, and also as far as I can remember which isn't that far, really).

I'm not sure how I feel about Clara - I missed too many of the last series to really have an opinion - though I have a feeling she might have been a bit badly served in the episode?

Also not at all sure that the phone call was necessary...

I haven't seen any of the new ones yet, but, while I do love the Silurian and her wife and her Sontaran butler... I have yet to see them actually do anything. They're like extremely stylish filler characters. But they are fun.
