We’ve had an absolutely lovely time at our annual (though it hasn’t happened for two years) gaming event.
I played in a very high level 5th edition D&D game, playing an 18th level druid. I’ve never played a character of that level before and it was interesting to have a wide variety of spells. I managed to gain the attention of the Big Bad by casting Dispel Magic at 9th level, thus removing her protective circle. It was most encouraging.
Next day we played my AD&D2e Roman game, which involved the characters searching for some kidnapped children and eventually doing battle with a Medusa and a Young Green Dragon. Luckily they approached these the right way round and took on the Medusa first. Then they tried to paralyse the Dragon with the medusa head and it didn’t work. Unfortunately the person with the head paralysed a couple of the other characters, which didn’t go down well with them. Hijinks ensued.
Finally I played Call of Cthulhu with my friend Paul as GM. It was an unusual setting – the 1640s, where our characters were witchfinders. We didn’t finish that scenario and will have to finish it online, but it was great fun being basically bad guys finding worse guys.
By then I was suffering from what we call Heromeet fatigue, and I’ve not been very lively with the guys. Julian has suffered the most because he’s been staying with me having left it too late to get a room in the university halls of residence. He says it worked out better, because he had to leave the venue reasonably early and we chatted for a bit then went to bed, but he didn’t get caught up drinking whisky until 2am and having a hangover next day.
So that’s what I’ve been doing.
