Hugely grateful to her for her efforts on my behalf.

Looks a lot better. BTW, cold taps (looking at your article on UK houses) should be on the right...

Should they...I don't think anyone told my plumber!

They should. (It's partly a safety thing. Most people are right handed, so the tap they reach for first should not be able to scald them)
