I feel as if someone's been beating my brain with a stick. I spent half of today in a meeting with the union's Branch Auditors, trying to bring the financial records up to date.

We succeeded (well, Comrade Yvonne succeeded) after a very long time of messing about with the figures. It turns out the Comrade Former Treasurer (FT) hadn't bothered getting the accounts audited since 2004. As there's a requirement to do this yearly, we weren't impressed. Well, we were impressed, but not favourably.

I have never told Comrade FT that, though he's quite well regarded among some of the high caste types who run the union, I loathe him. On a personal level, I am polite to him, but I would rather vote for one of the creepy moderates than for him and that says something as my natural position on the axis of right-left (moderate-left wing) is somewhere on the left wing. Luckily, it's never been necessary; if my own faction haven't had a suitable candidate I've always been able to find someone on the Independent Left to give my vote to.

Apropos that, I've often thought that the thorn-in-the-side satirical blog-thingy that my union suffers from (http://www.pflcpsa.com/) would be incomprehensible to the uninitiated. To understand it you need to know that there are three major factions, the Moderates (aka 4 the members aka the Moderati aka "me first"), Left Unity (aka Lunity or the Big Tent) and the Independent Left (aka Trotsky's Independent Traders aka the Socialist Caucus). I'm in Left Unity, the largest of the groups – they have the best parties at the annual conference. Even once you know the lie of the land politically it must be like hearing one of those jokes where you can't see how funny it is unless you know the people involved.

I'm meeting [personal profile] gloria1, [profile] clare_nce and [personal profile] cushy for an evening of uplifting discussion. So that should be good.
