I had a phone call from the DWP earlier today, to talk about my ongoing PIP review. We chatted for about an hour, with the annoying outcome that she’s going to refer me to an assessor.

I could totally live without that. When I asked how long it would take an assessor to get in touch, I was told that it could be “months”. Helpfully, I will be paid until a decision is made.

I hate how politicians, most of whom have never been disabled or sick or wondered how to pay for next month's bills are so blythe about forcing people through ridiculous hoops just to get or keep benefits. Government is not and should not be a for-profit business and yet, pols continue to act like it is.

You shouldn't have to wait months for them to get around to an assessment, which is absurd anyway.

My friend Yvonne at knit group has just told me that you'll get paid until a decision is made (& once you're past pension age it'll be a 'light touch' review every 10 years), and remember if your conditions have worsened since the last review/award, you might get more. She made a spreadsheet of everything she did every day for a week with what she did that she needed help with and how long it took.
