I think I can turn panic mode off: I had a good look at Smokey's 'lump' and it was a hard bit of matted fur. I've had a go at it, and with Smokey's help (when I scritched at it, she groomed it) it has all been removed.

I think it was simply in a place difficult for her to get to, so she ignored it. She just needed encouragement.

Thank you, cat, for scaring me half to death with that.

Oh, good. I'm glad it was nothing after all.

Our furry beasts regularly scare us too. Love in a non-human package is hard to explain to people who don't share that experience, you know?

I'm so glad it was just a mat. Current cat had a small mast cell lump that the vet found and removed, and warned me that it could recur anywhere - so comforting NOT. I get teased because I worry far too much (but once in a while I'm right). Pets and snuggles for Smokey!

Oh, cat.

I once, at the vets, panicked over a nipple. I'd been asked to hold her and my fingers were in places they don't go normally. The vet was very reassuring.
