I went to the dermatologist today, for my follow-up appointment.

It turns out that the suspicious mole I had removed with such urgency was a “melanoma in situ”, the beginning stage of malignant melanoma. The next stage is to remove the scar left by the removal of the mole, and biopsy that, just to be sure it’s all gone.

And the moral of this story is: if you have a dodgy looking mole (if it’s changing shape, or colour, spreading or generally not looking like it used to) take it to a doctor and ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

In other news, I have new specs. Cost an arm and a leg they did, as my specs always do. But for the moment I can see properly.

Yikes. I'm glad you caught it --- fingers crossed that the scars' biopsy verifies the all-clear. And very much yay for seeing properly again.

So very glad that you insisted on having it checked out - as you say it's absolutely essential to get any suspicious mole looked at.

Which reminds me, I'm overdue for my annual check up at the Mole Clinic and must sort out an appointment.
